THE flag at Warrington Town Hall will be flown at half mast this week in memory of the four members of band Viola Beach and their manager Craig Tarry, who died in Sweden at the weekend.

Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin were due to play a homecoming gig at the Pyramid next month.

Residents are being invited to show their respect by signing a book of condolence either at the Town Hall or at the council’s customer contact centre in Horsemarket Street.

Those who wish to lay flowers or other tributes can do so at the Town Hall’s Golden Gates.

Mayor of Warrington Councillor Geoff Settle said: “We are deeply saddened and shocked at what happened in Sweden at the weekend.

"Warrington has lost a talented young band on the verge of something special and a group of young people with their whole lives ahead of them.

“Many people in Warrington are still coming to terms with the news and I would ask that grieving families and friends to be given time and space so that they can take on board the enormity of what has happened.

“Our thoughts are with families and friends in Warrington and beyond.”

Warrington Borough Council is offering its support to local schools and communities touched by the tragedy.

There will be a period of reflection at the next full council meeting on 29 February.

A statement on behalf of Culture Warrington said: “We are deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news about the passing of Warrington’s Viola Beach and their manager in a tragic road accident in Sweden.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of the members of the band at this very sad time.”
