WARRINGTON Disability Partnership hopes to make a splash by raising thousands of pounds with a swimathon.

The charity is looking for fundraiser to swim a collective 25 miles and raise £2,500 as they celebrate their 25th birthday.

Last year’s WDP swim saw £2,000 raised and 22 miles swam, with nine-year-old Josh Morris, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, completing 22 laps for Warrington Disability Partnership.

This time around Dave Thompson MBE DL, co-founder and chief executive, and disability information officer Tom Coleridge are looking to clock up 64 lengths between them.

Residents are encouraged to just swim a few length or take on the one-mile Going the Extra Mile Challenge.

Dave said: “It was a huge personal achievement for Josh last year.

“Tom and I will be working together to clock up 64 lengths.

“That’s the beauty of the Going the Extra Mile Challenge – it is an opportunity to set a health and wellbeing goal for yourself or as part of a team.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if in our 25th anniversary year we could raise £2,500 and collectively swim 25 miles or more?

“Every length swam on the day makes a difference, whether it’s one or 64.

“This is a truly inclusive event for people of all ages and abilities – join team WDP in the pool for the swim, volunteer to count laps or sponsor us.

“There’s so many ways you can make a meaningful and hugely appreciated contribution.”

The swim starts in the pool at 4pm on Saturday March 12 at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub with registrations on the day from 3.30pm – to donate go to justgiving.com/wdpswim16.
