A WARD councillor is vowing to give every park in Fairfield and Howley the 'facilities they deserve' as a £150,000 project edges ever closer.

Cllr Tony Higgins (LAB – Fairfield and Howley) is confident Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN) bosses will agree to provide funding for the proposed transformation of Brickfields Park at their board meeting on March 2.

A £100,000 refurbishment of the children's play area is planned for the site as part of the work, along with a gym and fenced dog-walking area.

WREN is being asked for a £50,000 grant to ensure the project can be delivered.

Cllr Higgins said: "I have worked tirelessly to transform Brickfields Park into a cleaner, safer and more community friendly park and have introduced a successful annual fun day event.

"After a very successful public consultation we are now awaiting the WREN bid result in early March – this will ensure Brickfields Park will be one of the very best in Warrington and one to be proud of.

"I made a personal commitment to revamp Brickfields Park.

"With the help and support of my colleague Cllr Peter Carey (LAB – Fairfield and Howley), and more importantly the community, we hopefully will have the park residents deserve after so many years of neglect.

"We have also been looking at Oakwood Avenue park – that is next on the agenda.

"I want every single park in Fairfield and Howley to have the facilities they deserve so families have somewhere great to use."

Residents will find out whether the Brickfields Park bid has been successful days after it has been considered on March 2.
