OVER the past four weeks our Humans of Warrington feature has been telling the stories behind staff at Warrington Hospital's maternity ward who help make a difference to new mums and dad's lives every day.

NAME: Sheila Murphy

AGE: 52

LOCATION: Great Sankey

OCCUPATION: Interim matron

"My role is all about raising standards, making sure the hospital is clean, keeping our patients safe and improving patient experience.

"We learn from feedback whether it's positive or negative with NHS Choices and want to give mums and dads a voice so we can listen to their concerns and improve our services.

"I've been here since 1992 so there's been lots of patients that have stuck in my mind and we do see lots of ladies come back and have more children.

"There was a lady a couple of weeks ago who recognised me as I was walking down the corridor.

"I had looked after her when she was very young and now she has got a family of children.

"She said I was the only one there for her in the community to get her through it and started showing me pictures of her children.

"I was really humbled to hear that and it makes you realise midwives are there at such an emotional, important point of peoples' lives that you'll always be in their memory.

"And we need to make that experience or memory the best one possible.

"I'm very proud to work here and our midwives are very committed and always want to learn and improve all the time."
