MP David Mowat has vowed to continue ensuring youngsters have the chance to obtain 'secure, highly-skilled and well paid' jobs in the future following his latest jobs fair.

Thirty organisations gathered at the Parr Hall on Friday to offer jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities to young people in the town.

It was the fourth event since 2013 and Mr Mowat insists he is determined to continue the initiative.

Warrington Guardian:

"I suppose in an ideal world we would not need such an event because everyone would have jobs," he said.

"In Warrington the unemployment is down but there is always people looking for jobs.

"This time there is a bit more attention on apprenticeships that in the past – it is an exciting career option for people and they are a great way forward.

"Our future lies with young people and apprenticeships are a route for theme to take.

"With more people now in work than ever before, we must focus on making sure the young people of our town have secure, highly-skilled, well paid jobs to go into when they leave school.

"Speaking to the exhibitors, I know they were highly impressed by the calibre of applicants coming through the doors.

"I'm delighted that so many young people had the chance today to speak to their future work colleagues and I hope it will help more young people get on in life."

United Utilities water network apprentice Chris Chilton was on hand to offer his advice to youngsters, including Great Sankey High School pupils, and he highlighted the effectiveness of the jobs fair.

The 21-year-old said: "I think coming here will change a lot of people's minds. When I spoke to people I found an apprenticeship was something which interested me and so I came to fairs like this for more information."

The thirty organisations also included event sponsors Clear Sky Accounting, Brookson Ltd, Cash Management Solutions, Learning Curve Group, Sellafield Ltd, Ombudsman Services, D Morgan PLC and Omega Opportunities.
