THE family of a popular police officer  who died four weeks after giving birth to her first child, have paid tribute to the much-loved mum - one year on from her sudden death.

Becci Dadswell, who lived in Widnes and served with Warrington Central NPU in Orford, Bewsey and Longford, died on January 5 after spending a few short but sweet weeks with her daughter Bella and husband Simon, 40.

While living without their only daughter will never be easy, her parents Alan and Denise Butler have relied on the memories the family shared together and the support of family and friends to help them cope with their devastating loss.

Alan said: “She had everything she had ever dreamed of.

“She always had it in her head that she would get married to Simon, buy a house and then have a baby.

“It was all going wonderfully well until last January.”

Becci, who was also a caring step-mum to Simon's daughters Lydia, 15, and Daisy, 14, married her husband in 2013 and they lived happily together in Widnes.

But on January 5 she suddenly suffered acute pains at around 12.30pm and died two-and-a-half hours later at Warrington Hospital.

For six months, the family were left with many unanswered questions about the cause of Becci’s death.

But following the coroner's review it was confirmed that Becci had died as a result of a rare form of cancer called Choriocarcinoma, which had developed quickly following the birth of Bella four weeks earlier.

While it has been an inevitably difficult year for her loved ones, Simon, Alan and Denise have been able to try and cope with the reality of Becci’s death with support from their friends and family.

Alan added: “We have a very strong network of family and friends surrounding us all and it is as if we have been invited to be a part of other families – they have supported us so well.

“We lost a daughter but we have gained a son in Simon. The tragedy has brought us all closer together.”

Bella has been a ray of sunshine for the entire family – never failing to put a smile on their faces.

Speaking of his grandchild, Alan said: “She is wonderful and beautiful little girl. She has a lovely temperament and lots of energy.

“She is ignorant to what has happened with Becci because she is so young but she is keeping Simon on his toes.

“She keeps him busy and he always says ‘she melts his heart’.”

To mark the one year anniversary of her death, the family visited some of Becci’s fondest places in her hometown of Romsey in Hampshire including Romsey Abbey where candles were lit, her favourite ice cream parlour and the pub where she worked as a teenager.

Alan added: “It was a way to remember Becci and the memories we shared and the places we visited together.

"Although it was a sad day we had a good chat about Becci and shed a few tears.”

Following her death, best friends Louise Maunders and Charlotte Swithinbank launched a fundraising campaign to raise money for daughter Bella's future education.
