Take a look at some facts and figures which relate to the state of the nation's finances - * 1 in 3 of us failed to save a penny in 2006.

* The consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has said that the number of over-60's with money worries grew faster than any other age group last year. Pensioners are being forced into debt because of the ever increasing rise in the cost of living.

* 1 in 4 over-60's still have outstanding mortgage debts - an average of £31,000 per head.

* The Pensions Comission says that 11.7 million workers do not make any contribution to a pension.

* Half of Britain's pensioners are said to be cutting back on other things to pay annual fuel bills averaging £1,100. A survey by energy comparison website uSwitch indicated that 2 million over-60's spent more than a tenth of their income on fuel.

* More of us are saving for a holiday (49%) than for our retirement (46%) whilst just 28% of us are satisfied with our current savings for retirement.

* In 2004/05 39% of the 34.5 million working age population were members of a pension scheme (occupational or personal). This is down 40% from 2003/04.

These are just some of the startling figures I have uncovered during my research on the UK's pension crisis. Are you thinking about your financial future enough? Will the state look after you like you expect?
