THE curtain will be raised on plans for a new theatre in Warrington next month.

The Theatre 4 Warrington (T4W) group wants to open a new theatre in the town and will be unveiling its vision at a special event at Alford Hall, in Manchester Road, on June 4.

Thousands have already signed a petition to lobby for a venue Now organisers hope just as many will show their support next month when a DVD will reveal their plans for the first time.

A spokesman for the T4W group said: "We are giving all the people of Warrington the chance to see us and find out what we are about.

"We want as many people as possible to be there on the day."

As reported previously in the Warrington Guardian, the group was set up after worries among a number of theatre companies that the Parr Hall was no longer capable of holding theatre productions.

Fed up of travelling to Runcorn's Brindley Theatre, enthusiasts want a home they can call their own in Warrington.

The group is hopeful of developing the former Crosfields theatre site. The building was flattened a decade ago but the land remains vacant and could be a potential site for the theatre - just yards from Liverpool Road and close to the town centre.

Some money has already been donated to the cause and fundraising events have also been lined up.

A charity auction will take place in November, while a quiz night has been lined up for Grappenhall Sports Club as well.

And the group is planning a free music day in Warrington town centre in the summer to further outline its cause.
