MARILYN Monroe and Laurel and Hardy rubbed shoulders with market traders during a glitzy awards ceremony.

The Market Awards For Traders' Adverts (MAFTA) awards were held to honour traders who have shot to fame in their own adverts.

Filmed especially for the new plasma TV screens found around Warrington Market, the winners were recognised with a full ceremony and golden awards.

Steve Pickering, manager of Warrington Markets, said: "The awards are a great way of celebrating the hard work of all of our traders, who are completely committed to making the market the best it can be.

"It has been really difficult to choose who deserves individual awards - all of the adverts of a really high standard."

The entrants also got to enjoy a gala entrance on a red carpet where artists imitating Laurel and Hardy, Marilyn Monroe and Del Boy were on hand.

And the winners and losers got to celebrate and commiserate at a star-studded after-show party.
