MORE than 1,500 competitors across the north west are saddling up for the annual Warrington Horse Show on May 28.

Preparations for Cheshire's premier equestrian event are well under way and expectations are high for what promises to be its biggest show in recent times.

Revellers can expect top class show jumping, horse and pony show classes, side saddle riders and even prancing Iberian horses.

Show chairman Liz Sutton said: "There's probably not a show anywhere where you can get such a variety of different show classes, from shire horses to the new Iberian class with Spanish and Portuguese costumes, so it should be fantastic."

A new addition to the historic event is a competition to find Warrington's strongest man - so if you think you're up to the challenge start limbering up now.

The event will also boast a record number trade stands, a craft fair, farmers' market and the ever popular dog show, which will be in support of the Greyhounds in Need charity.

Held in the Daresbury showground, Warrington Horse Show is guaranteed to be a fun packed day for all the family.
