CAMPAIGNERS in Grappenhall are celebrating an unlikely victory over mobile phone giants 3G.
The company was looking to erect a mast on the vacant land off Knutsford Road, close to the swing bridge, a move that was blocked by councillors.
Now, a Government inspector has also thrown out the plans.
Geoff Cawley, who lives close to the nearby Fir Grove Hotel, said the success was a tribute to all the people living nearby who had rallied to the cause.
He added: "This is a great victory. So many people have sent their support for this around here."
Residents now say they would like to see some plants put on the site as a reminder of what could have been erected on there.
