TEN years ago, aspiring teacher Jo Holmes stepped foot into Brook Acre Primary for the first time and instantly knew this was the school where she belonged.

After a decade working at the school on Hilden Road, her passionate beliefs about the school have not wavered.

It is this dedication and commitment to the school why the current head teacher from North Wales was announced as the Warrington Guardian's teacher of the month.

She said: “I visited this school while I was applying for my first job and I remember the day vividly.

“I walked round with around six people from my course with the previous head teacher.

“We were walking through the car park and I turned to one of the students I was with and said ‘that’s where I want to work and that’s the place for me’.

“Ten years later and it still is the place for me.

“Teaching is the only job I wanted to do and I do love every minute here – no matter what the day brings.

“You go home and you think blimey that was a good day and you look at the children and it’s because of them that every day is amazing

“It’s the perfect job me – why would you not want to help change the lives of these pupils?”

Naturally each job has its challenges but the camaraderie present at Brook Acre is what makes the school special.

The former Liverpool John Moores student added: “I look at the parents and I see the energy they bring to our school and to the kids. This school is a family. There is no doubt about that.

“We know the parents by name and they know us by name and they are welcome in school as much as they can.

“It is amazing to lead a school where every single member of staff will do anything for these children.

They will go above and beyond and nothing is ever too much.”

Each month, the Warrington Guardian celebrates the hard work, dedication and achievements of one deserving teacher in the town.

The award, which is sponsored by education recruitment and training consultancy Academics Ltd, honours a teacher who has made a real difference to the school community.
