A CHARITY is urging residents from Warrington, Halton, Knowsley and St Helens to support its Care in Crisis campaign demanding urgent reform of the social care system.

Age UK Mid Mersey has launched its Don't Cut Care petition calling on the Government to urgently invest in community care for older people.

It has said more than one million people across the country are struggling with day to day tasks due to a lack of support and labelled it as a 'silent disgrace'.

Age UK is asking all those who support the issue to get behind the campaign to make sure voices are heard by the Government ahead of a spending review on November 25.

Chief executive Mark Lunney said: "The immediate problem we face is that at the same time as the older population is growing the Government has cut social care funding to such an extent that the numbers of older people needing help and not getting it are rising.

"We need to create a big noise to make sure the Government listens to our concerns and takes action now."
