RESCUE boats were launched last night following reports of an upturned dinghy in the Mersey near Knutsford Road.
The alarm was raised at 8.05pm last night, Tuesday, with firefighters also searching the area on foot.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman added: "Firefighters were called to a dinghy which appears to have been washed up in the Mersey just up from Howley Weir.
"The crews found an upturned vessel and launched the rescue boat and searched the area on foot and with a thermal imaging camera.
"Nobody was located and the incident was handed over to the police."
