RESIDENTS will be able to make or update their will for free later this month in return for a donation to The Christie Hospital.
Dootsons Solicitors in Culcheth will offer their services free of charge as part of the specialist cancer centre’s sixth annual Make a Will Week from September 14-18.
They will write or update wills in return for donations to the hospital.
Ellen Hingley, legacy and research manager at The Christie, said: “It’s never too early to make a will and as life changes with getting married, having children, buying a house or retiring it often needs updating.
“Leaving a gift in your will, however big or small, to a cause close to the heart, makes a huge difference to charities.
According to figures, increasing numbers of people are making donations to charity in their will – an estimated £2.2billion is donated in the UK each year through wills.
Last year alone the Christie received nearly £5m through donors who left a gift in their will.
Janet Calvert from Dootsons Solicitors said: “We welcome the opportunity to support the Christie by being involved in Make a Will Week.
“Each one of us at Dootsons knows a relative or friend who has needed treatment and care at the Christie and we recognise the tremendous work done there.”
The suggested minimum donation is £90 for a single will, £135 for a pair of mirror wills, or £40 to update an existing will.
