FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle two blazes in the town last night.

A smoke alarm alerted neighbours to a cooker fire, involving an unattended pan, in the kitchen of a ground floor flat on Sidings Court in Howley at 7.40pm.

Police officers and firefighters had to force entry into the property to extinguish the fire.  

Firefighters used one hose reel jet to deal with the fire. 

Fire crews also attended a shed fire on Locker Avenue, Orford, at 10.50pm, which also caused damage to the upper and lower floors of a building.

Firefighter remained at the scene for more than an hour to extinguish the fire using two hose reel jets.
