MANY Penketh residents may be delighted to hear plans for a solar farm have been rejected.

A number of objections letters were sent to the council over proposals for 25 acre solar energy farm on land south of Station Road.

Penketh Parish Council also objected to the application and refuted claims Solar Energy Park had contacted them.

A statement from Warrington Borough Council's planning department explains the plans had been refused during a 'pre-planning advice stage'.

It added: "Due to the lack of detailed assessment of noise and light impacts on residential amenity it is not possible to conclude that the proposal would not result in adverse impacts to residential amenity.

"The proposal would also constitute inappropriate development in the Green Belt...as well as resulting in significant encroachment in the countryside."

The proposal was also criticised for a lack of detail regarding access to the site and 'failed to demonstrate that the proposed use of agricultural land is necessary'.
