THE OLD Town House is set for a new lease of life as a woman who ‘grew up learning how to change barrels’ takes the reins.

Joanne Jones will become the new landlady of the Buttermarket Street pub, which will be rebranded as the Brewhouse.

The pub was last open for business in June, when it was branded as the Doghouse live music venue before it shut its doors.

Born and bred Latchford girl Joanne said: “I have worked in pubs – I worked in the Blue and Time Square – but not for a long time and I’ve not been a landlady before so this is my first venture.

“My grandma and granddad ran the Conservative Club on St Mary’s Street in Latchford, or the Kings Club as it’s known.

“I grew up in the Kings Club learning how to change barrels and things.”

A relaunching event will be held this Friday, while a garden party featuring DJ collective Beat Soup will be held on Saturday September 5.

The pub will officially open the following week.

While acts are already booked between now and October, they are on the lookout for more.

Joanne, who is planning to live above the Brewhouse, said: “I’ve always liked the building and atmosphere and the tradition for music.

“I want to bring back live local music with live bands from Warrington and the surrounding areas.

“Eventually we want to do food, especially because I love the garden, and we’re going to be doing local craft ales.”
