A FRIGHTENED mum, who is six months pregnant with her second child, has spoken of her shock after a smoke bomb was posted through her letter box in Orford.

The 25-year-old, of Greenwood Crescent, who has asked not to be named, was sat in her living room with her boyfriend on Tuesday at 11.30pm when the couple heard a noise coming from the letter box.

Her boyfriend jumped up to investigate and discovered the hall was filled with smoke.

She said: "Luckily we were awake because who knows what could have happened if we had been sleeping.

"We just heard a shuffling at the letter box so my partner got up to look and my door mat was on fire and there was smoke everywhere.

"I couldn't believe a smoke bomb had been posted through my letter box.

"My two-year-old was upstairs asleep."

The couple immediately called the emergency services but luckily the smoke bomb went out.

She added: "Police searched the area but did not find anything out.

"I have lived here for two and a half years and I have never had any problems. We just keep ourselves to ourselves

"The police told me that they think it is a random attack and that it is rare for something like this to happen here."

But since the incident, the woman said she feels constantly worried and has had a letter box shutter fitted which can be locked at night.

"I feel paranoid constantly. Every little noise I worry about," she said.

Cheshire Police have confirmed that they received a report of criminal damage that appears to have been caused by a smoke bomb.

DC Simon Fisher said: “This was an isolated incident and although only minor damage has been caused could have been very serious.

"Police presence in the area has been increased and a thorough investigation is under way.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call DC Fisher on 101, quoting incident 1026 of July 28 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
