WHETHER it was cheering Warrington Wolves on home or away or seeing him ride his Jock 1 scooter around the streets of Great Sankey, hundreds of fans have been sharing their memories of James Patrick Maguire.

The 85-year-old, better known to everyone as Jock, died peacefully at Warrington Hospital on Saturday night after losing his battle with stomach cancer.

Staff at Warrington Wolves had arranged a collection for flowers to spell out the name 'Jock' but since the announcement on Facebook, Clare at Bocboc Florist has kindly donated the flower arrangement.

Donations are still welcome in store at WolfWare with all money going towards St Rocco's Hospice and MacMillan Nurses as per Jock's wishes.

The club will also be donating funeral flowers on behalf of all colleagues, players, coaches and supporters.

The lifelong Wire fan was told in April this year by doctors he only had weeks to live but bravely carried on as normal and even attended a special 'Celebration of life' evening at The Sportsmans Arms in Penketh in his honour.

Punters wore T-shirts with the message 'There's only one Jock' during the event while messages for the popular former Warrington Hospital and ambulance employee filled more than seven guest books.

Speaking at the time, the well-loved Scot said: "I'm not used to it (the attention) but it is touching."

Jock was adopted from an orphanage and moved to the town when he was five-years-old.

He married Cynthia on February 14, 1953 at St Joseph’s Church and for 45 years they never missed a Warrington Wolves game home or away.

The happy couple did not have children but have made up for it with countless friends in the town including numerous players and staff at Warrington Wolves who invited Jock to watch a training session at the Halliwell Jones stadium after news spread about his terminal illness.

A club statement added: "The loveable Scot followed rugby league and Warrington for 80 years since he moved to the town and he was the life and soul of the party known by everyone associated with the club.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to family, friends and all who knew him.

"Rest in peace Jock."

A number of players have also paid tribute to Jock on Twitter posting a picture of Jock with the hashtag #TrueWireLegend.

Richie Myler added: "Awesome result from the boys. I think Jock would of been proud of us all! RIP champ you will be missed by all of us!"

Lee Briers added: "You were a gentleman Jock RIP my friend."

Jock's funeral will be held on Mon at 10.20am at Walton Crematorium followed by a 'celebration of life' at the Sportmans Arms in Penketh.

The cortege will leave Jock's home in Great Sankey at 9am and go via Warrington Hospital and the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
