WHILE many school leavers will have headed for their prom in a limo this summer, one teenager had his sights on a much bigger mode of transportation.

Autistic 19-year-old James Corker has become part of the team at Asda after he was spotted taking pictures outside the supermarket's depot on Dallam Lane three years ago.

And as a special treat, staff organised for one of his beloved Asda lorries to pick him up and take him to his prom at The Cavendish High School Academy in Runcorn.

Delighted mum Gill, of Bisham Park in Runcorn, said: "It was amazing.

"The staff at the Asda warehouse in Warrington arranged for James to visit every Saturday and when we mentioned he had his prom coming up they said straight away they would see if they could do anything.

"We know a lot went into arranging it and we can't thank everyone enough.

"When he pulled into the school all the parents started clapping and it was amazing seeing James' face.

"We couldn't have asked for anything more."

James, who has severe learning difficulties, now volunteers as a PA at the Runcorn store and helps hand out work sheets to the drivers as well as regular visits to the Asda Warrington depot.

His fascination with the supermarket giant started when he was two-years-old with his collection of toy Asda lorries.

Gill, aged 51, added: "He absolutely loved them and then as he got older we would have to drive along the motorway to find them to calm him down at 2 or 3am.

"We went into Warrington one day so he could take pictures and one of the security guards asked what he was doing.

"After I explained we were invited in a few days later for a tour and now James knows every driver and every lorry and if you tell him the registration number he can tell you who drives that lorry.

"Everyone makes him feel so welcome."

The excitement does not stop there however this summer for James ahead of starting at college in Northwich as Asda Community Life Champion Ella Healey is also arranging for him to see a trailer and lorry being built as well as meeting the area's top manager in Leeds.
