A POP-UP restaurant is coming to Warrington for the first time.

Pyramid is to be transformed into a restaurant once a month for the My Little Kitchen (MyLK) supper club starting on Friday, July 24.

Chefs James Thatcher and Kyle Tyrrell, who met while catering for Paul Heathcote, will be offering a three-course meal for around 40 to 50 diners.

But the experience will also see a new menu each month reflecting seasonality and the latest in food fashions from regional suppliers.

The pair took inspiration from pop-up restaurants in London which have recently become a big hit.

"It’s something new and different," said James, from Great Sankey.

"If you go to a restaurant you’ve usually got a set menu and it’s the same all the time.

"It can get boring but this way it’s a different menu each time. We start with what’s in season and what goes together and take it from there.

"Further down the line we’d like to get some big name chefs to come down and do one evening.

"We will also give young up-and-coming chefs the chance to show their skills."

James even has plans for Christmas already after being inspired by a visit to L’Enclume in Cumbria with his partner Gemma McElwaine, bar and catering supervisor for Culture Warrington.

The restaurant featured in The Trip, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, and is renowned for its extensive gourmet tasting menus.

James, who moved to Warrington when he was 18, added: "Around Christmas we’d like to do some festive themed tasting nights with a 10 to 12 course meal.

"It’s just about enjoying really good food basically. To me, going out to dinner is an experience. It’s a whole night and not a rush. I want to go back to having a meal out being special."

The first menu includes culinary creations like confit pork belly, roast Goosnargh duck breast and spiced sweet potato gnocchi.

And James told Weekend that a lot of thought goes into the often neglected vegetarian options.

The 37-year-old said: "We do try hard at that because there are so many places you go where the vegetarian meal is just dire.

"We had Black Grape on Sunday for dinner and one of them is vegan so we adapted the menu and worked on things like a chickpea bonbon."

Kyle added: "It's an exciting idea to bring to Warrington and the Cultural Quarter and something we sincerely hope takes off."
