The exam period can be a stressful time for youngsters but one teacher has gone the extra mile to make sure her pupils are prepared for the journey ahead.

It is because of her hard work and unrelenting support that teacher Philippa Hunt was picked as the winner of the Warrington Guardian's teacher of the month.

The Christ Church CofE Primary School teacher said she was shocked and stunned to receive the award after she was surprised during one of her classes.

She said: "It is quite an honour that somebody thinks so much of me when I'm simply doing my job.

"It can be a difficult time for some children so I try to give them as much help as possible."

Having worked at the school on Station Road for 20 years, Philippa is certainly no stranger to the classroom.

With more than two decades of experience, Philippa, who worked at St Andrew's Primary School for four years, said teaching is not just about teaching pupils the basics.

She said: "I like to see the children develop and grow. Not just academically but personally and spiritually in life."

One of the highlights of her career is when her pupils experience what is often described as the light-bulb moment.

She said: "It's when they have that kerching moment and all of a sudden you can see it on their faces that they understand.

"It happens on a daily basis and I never tire of it.

Each month, the Warrington Guardian celebrates the hard work, dedication and achievements of one deserving teacher in the town.
