TWO donkeys are already attracting crowds to Walton Hall Children's Zoo after arriving today, Thursday.

Lenny, aged four, and Charlie, aged five, who belong to the Donkey Sanctuary, were welcomed to the site this morning.

The 'nice natured' pair will be fostered by the zoo, where they will receive one to one attention by the rangers.

Warrington Guardian:

They were relinquished to the sanctuary last year but their new home is already proving to be popular.

Since arriving, children have visited the spot to get a glimpse of the donkeys roaming on the yard.

The zoo suffered a 'devastating' loss last December when its oldest resident, 29-year-old Bobo the donkey, passed away following various health problems.

But ranger Peter Cookson-Dean believes Lenny and Charlie will prove to be firm favourites with families in the coming years.

Warrington Guardian:

"It is fantastic to have donkeys return to the zoo - we love coming into work and listening to them braying good morning," he said.

"We hope that the donkeys will be able to interact with school groups and work experience students and volunteers once they have settled down.

"The donkeys will be a massive asset to the zoo but we can't replace Bobo and never will.

"But it is great to see people already coming in - they are loving the donkeys, who have been on the yard today to help settle them in their new surroundings.

"Everybody is telling us how nice it is to see them both here."

Charlie is a strawberry roan donkey and Lenny is dark brown.

Regular updates on how Charlie and Lenny are getting on will be provided on the zoo's Facebook page.

The zoo is open from 10:30am to 4:45pm daily.
