SIX teens arrested on suspicion of arson after a blaze engulfed the former Mr Smith's nightclub have been released on police bail.

Four 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were arrested after a fire destroyed the iconic art deco landmark on Tuesday, April 14.

The teenagers, who are now all aged 17, were released on police bail until Monday, yesterday, following their arrest.

The six youths, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were ordered to report to custody yesterday.

But no charges have been made and the gang of youths have been released until July 9 as investigations are still ongoing.

All six have been given conditional bail.

A 15-year-old girl, who was also arrested on suspicion of arson, is expected to report for bail tomorrow, Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the building at 2am following reports of a blaze at the former ABC Cinema.

At the height of the incident, 12 fire crews, including firefighters from across Cheshire, were at the scene on Wilson Patten Street.

Plans were put in place to partially demolish the iconic Warrington landmark but it was later ruled that the building would be completely demolished due to health and safety fears.

This halted blueprints to transform the building into a state-of-the-art youth zone for the town.

An appeal was launched to raise the additional half a million pounds needed to turn the town's youth zone plans into a reality.

But weeks on, questions still remain about what is to become of the land with stunned residents still waiting for answers.
