THE Mayor and Mayoress represented the town at one of the most prestigious parties of the year at Buckingham Palace.

Cllr Geoff Settle (LAB - Poulton North) and Jean attended the Queen's garden party last Thursday.

Mrs Settle said: "It was a great day and we happened to be at the right place at the right time to get some fantastic views of Her Majesty in her stunning deep pink outfit - thank goodness I was in lime green and didn't clash."

The evening before the event, the pair went to see hit musical Beautiful about the life and career of Carole King.

"Back in the 1970s I bought my first vinyl long playing record called Tapestry by Carole King so what was more fitting than to go and see Beautiful," said Cllr Settle.

"You could say it was quite a royal 24 hours during which we saw both a queen and king."
