AN executive member of the council has urged residents across the town to ‘stand up’ against fly-tipping after finding a freezer dumped on a Gorse Covert path last Monday.
Cllr Russ Bowden, who is in charge of the council’s budget, was stunned to find the household item on the path which runs around the back of Bramshill Close.
After returning to the site shortly after with his trailer, Cllr Bowden took the freezer to the Gatewarth recycling centre.
“It is really disappointing that residents choose to fly-tip in Warrington,” he said.
“All waste can be disposed of properly and for free at any of our community recycling sites.
“I loaded this freezer into my trailer and took it to Gatewarth - the person responsible for the fly-tipping could have done the same."
Dealing with litter and fly-tipping costs the council more than £600,000 a year but Cllr Bowden is hopeful the town will unite to fight against the problem.
He added: "This is money that could be more usefully spent on delivering vital services to our residents.
"We need the whole community to stand up against this kind of behaviour and drive a change in our town."
