A DAVID Cameron lookalike borrowed £2 from the country's 'budget' to bet on Warrington Wolves to win the regular season at Stockton Heath's Betfred store on Tuesday.

The Conservative 'Prime Minister' arrived outside the shop in a Range Rover before being escorted in to place his wager.

Amid austerity concerns for the country, store manager Don Smith asked him how much money the budget 'will allow' him to use for his bet.

With little hesitation, he lumped £2 on Wolves to win the league at 20/1, with all potential winnings to go to the Warrington Wolves Foundation.

Mr Cameron, who has visited the town three times this year, may not have been here himself but his principles were echoed.

"I am here to persuade the voters as we want to stay in Government," said the lookalike.

"We have a 1,553 majority to defend and it is a tight seat here in Warrington South but we are focused on holding onto it but the Labour candidate is also in a strong position.

"I am confident the country will choose me so I can continue doing what I set out to do."

But aside from hoping to be re-elected into power, 'Mr Cameron' was confident his bet would come off.

"I am very confident that it will be successful and all the money will go to charity," he added.

"I enjoy the rough nature of rugby union but rugby league is in a strong position in Warrington and I enjoy that too."

Last month the PM suffered a moment of embarrassment after the Aston Villa fan indicated he supported West Ham.

But Peter Spencer, the bookmaker's public relations executive, who is based at the Birchwood head office, was keen to set the record straight.

"He supports Aston Villa - that incident was just a slip of the tongue," he said.

"He now just wants to meet as many people as possible and speak to voters to see what they want."

After leaving the store the lookalike greeted those passing by before being escorted away in the Range Rover.
