A COUNCILLOR has hit out after a lack of action from the council to repair a wall damaged during the demolition of part of a bridge near Walton Hall and Gardens on February 16.

The incident at the grade two listed bridge, which crosses the Bridgewater Canal near the Walton Arms pub, happened after the site was struck by a lorry carrying bricks.

But part of the wall, which stands just yards away, was destructed by the vehicle but the council is yet to have repaired it or cleared up the bricks.

Cllr Paul Kennedy (CON - Hatton, Stretton and Walton) has continued to raise the issue with the council and admits he is becoming increasingly frustrated over the matter.

It is believed that problems with insurers have played an integral part of the delay.

"I really want this to be sorted out - it is dangerous and residents are getting frustrated which they have every right to be," he said.

"They should have got the wall repaired by now and tidied up. The big capping stones on top are valuable and original - we need to try to put some of them back on.

"I will continue to speak to the council about it - the matter has gone on too long now."

Following Cllr Kennedy's persistence, the council has confirmed that work is set to begin shortly.

A council spokesman said: "We have received approval from the insurer, and orders have been raised to undertake the works.

"Some replacement stone will be sourced and work will start within the next two weeks - we expect it will take about a week to repair."
