A DEGREE of mystery still surrounds an albino animal spotted in Sankey Valley Park.
After previous reports in the Warrington Guardian, a number of readers have speculated the mammal could be a ferret from a former farm in Burtonwood.
But Sarah Bennett, conservation manager for the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, said the animal is more likely a mink.
She added: “Minks are much more confident in water than ferrets, so it may well be a mink.
"The best way to identify it as a species would be by its scat (droppings) and footprints.
"Although pure white minks have been known to exist, we have not had sightings for some time in Cheshire.
“The current mink population is descended from captive stock bred for the fur industry and they have become naturalised in the wild.”
Do you have any information about the former farm in Burtonwood?
