GREAT Sankey residents have been having their say after plans for a new primary school building were revealed.

The Warrington Guardian reported in August last year Barrow Hall Primary was set to be the first to relocate to a new home under plans to tackle the schools shortage crisis in the town.

The new three form entry primary school will be on the Omega South development bounded by Lingley Green Avenue, Omega Boulevard, Orion Boulevard and Burtonwood Road and provide places for an extra 108 pupils

But issues have already been raised over the application with parents highlighting traffic and parking as their main concerns.

One Great Sankey resident commented: "At the moment, in the morning Kingsdale Road has a serious traffic problem due to the backlog of traffic on Lingley Green Avenue.

"I strongly feel that the road infrastructure needs to be significantly improved around this area and there needs to be consideration of parking issues so as to ensure that the situation around Old Hall Road and Twenty Acre Road is not replicated in this area."

A supporting planning statement prepared by Ellis Williams Architects adds the current school building was generally in poor condition and occupies a 'restricted and cramped site' near Great Sankey High which can become 'very congested' during school hours.

The statement adds: "Omega South residential development is in the early stages of design development, with early indications being that there will be circa 1100 residential dwellings planned to be constructed along with logistics and office development.

"It has been concluded that Barrow Hall Primary School should be expanded to meet the need of some of the additional demand from Omega South. "However, the preferred option for the expansion of the school would be to relocate to a new site within the Omega South residential development."

The plans include a new road from the Lingley green/Kingsdale Road roundabout to the site and a new pedestrian and cycle route to link the Lingley Green Avenue/Barrow Hall Lane roundabout to the school site and new road.

If approved, the new building is expected to be completed by late spring 2016 with the school moving to the new site during the summer and opening in September 2016.
