EMERGENCY services came to the rescue of a couple in Woolston this morning, Thursday.
Police officers were driving past the property on Barnfield Road when they were alerted to the fire by a cyclist.
The officers rushed to the elderly couple's aid and helped them to safety as the fire had become 'out of control'.
It is understood the couple did not suffer serious injuries.
Fire crews received reports people were trapped in the bungalow blaze but when they arrived at the scene at 4.40am, police officers had already escorted them from the building.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman said: "The crews, four wearing breathing apparatus, used one main and two hose reel jets to put out the fire.
"The fire was caused by an electrical fault in halogen ceiling lights where the heat had caused combustible materials in the loft to ignite."
Police say the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
More to follow.
