WARRINGTON Road, in Higher Walton, has been closed between its junctions with Old Chester Road and Park Lane following the demolition of part of a bridge near Walton Hall and Gardens on Monday.
A lorry carrying bricks caused the damage and diversion routes have now been put in place by the council.
All vehicles accessing properties or businesses on Warrington Road will need to do so via a Park Lane diversion.
The diversion has been marked by signs at Old Chester Road, Chester Road A56 and Park Lane.
