A CAMPAIGN started in memory of Padgate biker Jack Bellis is set to see a road safety initiative launched worldwide.

Small stickers for the side mirrors of a vehicle to remind drivers to do a ‘double-take’ for those on two wheels will be rolled out across Europe, the Middle East and Africa by the FIA, the world motoring body.

The stickers are the brainchild of Tony Rich, aged 44, a family friend of Jack, who was 19 when he was killed in a crash in Runcorn in October 2012.

Gareth David Owen Jones, of Cradley, Widnes, was jailed for 15 months in April last year, for causing death by careless driving.

Following Jack's death, Tony, an AA patrol man, started the Think Bikes campaign with funding from the AA Charitable Trust.

He said: "The campaign helps reinforce awareness that the road is a shared space.

"Bikes and motorbikes don’t just appear out of nowhere – we need to look out for each other.

“It’s incredible that Jack’s legacy is now part of a global road safety campaign backed by the FIA.

"There are around 300 million drivers in Europe alone, so the potential to make a difference is huge.

“We would encourage all drivers to use the free stickers and do a ‘double-take’ in their mirrors for cyclists and motorcyclists.”
