A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has been forced to apologise to Golden Square staff after a smoke bomb he let off caused an evacuation of the shopping centre.

Cheshire Police said that after questioning a group of youths following a CCTV appeal in the Warrington Guardian, one teenager was identified as the culprit.

The other four pictured at the time were cleared of any wrongdoing.

He was taken for a face-to-face meeting with the duty manager of the Golden Square.

PC Graham Davies, of Warrington Town Centre NPU, said: "He had a chance to inform the offender the effect that the offence had on people’s lives on the date of the offence.

"The offender had a chance to reflect on the seriousness of his actions.

"He verbally apologised to the manager.

"This was clearly an act of horseplay on the day, but it turned out to be quite serious.

"We thank the general public for their help in bringing this matter to a close."
