WARRINGTON Wolves have joined a string of fellow Super League clubs by becoming an associate member of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group.

The side joins Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR, as well as Championship outfit Batley Bulldogs after joining forces with the group, which brings together the houses of Parliament to support in supporting rugby league.

The announcement was made by the group’s vice chairman, Warrington South MP David Mowat, who represents the team in his constituency.

"The Rugby League Group is very active in Westminster and has become a powerful voice for the sport," he said.

"It is not without representation in Parliament, as well as me as their local MP, the club and the Group share a president in Lord Hoyle.

"But now they have joined the Parliamentary Rugby League Group, fellow MPs can hear their thoughts directly - I look forward to welcoming them to meetings.”

Steven Broomhead, chairman of Warrington Wolves, echoed the sentiment and said: “Like any proud rugby league town, Warrington has had the support of its MPs.

"We’ve therefore had a good relationship with the parliamentary group since its creation in 1988 but with our associate membership, we are able to take part in discussions as they happen in Westminster.

"We are very much looking forward to continuing our active involvement at this important level.”
