NEW year, new toys - for the majority of children across the town little else matters, but a nine-year-old Chapelford Village Primary School pupil has other ideas.

Lily Roddy, from Great Sankey, has just one thing on her mind as 2015 begins - a determination to inspire mum Nicola to get fit.

Lily began taking part in children's CrossFit classes three months ago and has never looked back since as she continues to delve into the world of using fundamental movements to build fitness and athleticism.

"I really enjoy the classes because they're fun and they will make it easy to be able to carry on doing things like squats and cartwheels when I grow up," she said.

"It has been good starting the classes and my mum wants to get fit now as well because she watches me do CrossFit and she has just had a baby - my little sister Flora."

As Nicola prepares to get involved in the fitness world, co-owner of Bewsey gym CrossFit Warrington, on Hoyle Street, Sukh Sidhu, has raised the importance of enabling youngsters to learn how to remain healthy from an early age.

"Children have an ability to move their bodies correctly and should be encouraged to do so," he said.

"It is key to ensure their quality of movement is not lost as they grow into adulthood.

"But we aim to keep the classes fit so the kids can have fun - that is just as important."
