HAVING performed to packed arenas across the globe throughout a glittering career, Starsailor's store performance at Lizard Inc Records may have seemed a walk in the park.

Just hours before the band's homecoming Parr Hall show, fans gathered from all over the town to get a glimpse of their idols on Legh Street.

Frontman James Walsh performed an acoustic set, followed by a signing session from the group, not forgetting the mince pies provided.

Although acknowledging the fact it was a privilege to visit the store, drummer Ben Byrne admitted that the idea arose from his friend of 20 years - Orford resident Phil Hilton.

"I have known the guys here for a while and it is just a really good place to come to and be able to relax in," said Ben.

"I'm glad we have managed to come here before the show - you get a nice community feeling being here, but it was Phil's idea, he mentioned it and so he deserves credit for that."

Put on with the help of Dawsons Music, 9 Gallon, Rum Bar and Cathy'sSandwich Bar, Lizard Inc owner Steven 'Diddy' Davidson was quick to praise the community for joining forces.

"The shop is like a community hub and I want to be involved in the community as it is great to help each other," said the 50-year-old, who has been DJing since he was 13.

"I have been friends with the group for years and it was stressful getting everything done but it is great to see everyone here.

"I don't think a lot of people know the shop is here but if they did, they could be forgiven for thinking they are in Camden in London or the Northern Quarter in Manchester."

The music enthusiasts also offered an open invitation to aspiring stars in the town.

"Bring your ideas to me and I will see if I can help in any way," he added.

A donation box was present in the store, with all proceeds given to homelessness charity Shelter.
