AN Appleton Thorn man is a serious contender for taking the 'selfie of the year' after climbing around 150m of a New Zealand bridge, without safety gear.
Fraser Sollitt, 22, is currently on his travels familiarising himself with the Kiwi way of life, while working on a fruit orchard.
During a road trip to Gisborne, Fraser and his friends passed the Mohaka Viaduct and stopped for a view of the scenery.
After being asked if he would like to climb the bridge at the location by his friend, Fraser took on the challenge without hesitation and captured a snap of the experience - one that he will never forget.
"I was nervous and skeptical to start with but as time passed it got easier and I started to really enjoy it," he said.
"I remember looking down at about 100m high and for some reason not being scared at all - it was a surreal feeling and I haven't done anything that extreme before."
The experience may have left a lasting memory for Fraser but he hinted that it would not be his last impressive selfie.
"It was my first time doing it but it won't be the last - I thoroughly enjoyed the adrenaline rush," he added.
