PARENTS who suffered stillbirths at Warrington Hospital will soon find out the results of an investigation into maternity services.

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) spent a full day at the service talking to staff and interviewing parents in the summer following nine stillbirths and one neonatal death at the Lovely Lane hospital.

The Warrington Guardian reported last month health watchdog the Care Quality Commission had ordered bosses to make improvements after an inspection of maternity services found 'overnight' changes went against guidelines.

Speaking during last week's hospital board meeting, Mel Pickup said: "They (RCOG) have now given us their report with a number of recommendations.

"None of which are a surprise to us in various shapes and forms as we have been investigating the issues well over six or seven months now and have gathered over that time an intricate picture of maternity services both strengths and areas that need improvement."

She added they are responding to recommendations and had a workshop in early November with maternity staff.

"In the interest of being open and transparent, we have kept in touch with the parents and tried to treat them with as much respect and dignity as we can," Miss Pickup added.

"We recognise their views and opinions which are always very helpful to us planning how we might do things better."
