ALDI has hinted that an additional store in Warrington could be on the cards.

The global supermarket chain currently has four stores in the town but announced plans to create 35,000 new jobs in Britain, as it almost doubles its sites over the next eight years, earlier this month.

The retailer aims to reach 1,000 stores by 2021, although some critics have cast doubt on the number of jobs that will inevitably be created.

"Aldi is committed to delivering more stores to Warrington to complement our thriving existing operations," said an Aldi spokesperson.

"However, thus far we have been frustrated in our attempts to find suitable sites."

David Mowat, MP for Warrington South, is backing the potential move, insisting that it would give families much-needed 'security'.

"Unemployment is now under 2% in Warrington, however, if you don’t have a job it might as well be 100 per cent," he said.

"I really hope that Aldi choose to locate new stores in the town and create well-paid employment to give more families the financial security they need to plan for the future."

Attention for the supermarket giants now shifts to finding possible locations to expand.

Aldi's development plans come as part of a £600m expansion project.
