A WARRINGTON fish and chip shop battered its regional competition after being named the north west's best chippy.

Captain Papa's Fish & Chips, on School Brow, will now fry for glory for a plaice at the top of the industry against nine other fish and chip shops from across the country in the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year category as part of the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.

The shop has already impressed judges after being marked on topics including product quality, sustainable sourcing policies, marketing initiatives and customer service.

And it will now face a panel of industry and media judges before the winners are crowned in January.

Syd Papacaoullas, owner of Captain Papa’s, said: “It’s such a massive honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award and we can’t emphasise how much this means to the whole team.

“As a family business first-established in 1966, we have worked hard through three generations to make our shop the best it can be – being rewarded for this is very satisfying! Personally, I think it is all down to our secret batter recipe which was created when the shop first opened – customers come from far and wide to get a taste.

“Winning this award is considered the highest level of achievement for our industry, so I’d like to thank all our customers for their undeniable loyalty throughout the years - here’s to the final.”
