A STOCKTON Heath family have been celebrating after a brave schoolboy has picked up a Pride of Britain award for his Alder Hey fundraising efforts.

Ted McCaffery took on a mini-triathlon and has so far raised more than £1,000 to help other poorly children at the Liverpool hospital after undergoing major heart surgery.

Mum Jo said the whole family was honoured and so excited Ted had won the award after being nominated by Alder Hey in the young fundraiser category.

Clare White, director of charities at Alder Hey said: “We are all incredibly proud and delighted that Ted has won a Pride of Britain Award.

"Last year we asked Ted to be one of our Young Ambassadors because of everything he has done to support the charity.

"He is always trying to think of new ways he can help raise money for our new hospital and make things better for other children who come to Alder Hey.

"He is a true inspiration and a more than worthy winner of such a prestigious award.”
