A POLICE operation to stop contraband from being smuggled into Risley Prison saw three people cautioned for possessing drugs.

Yesterday, Wednesday, officers from Warrington East NPU were on patrol at the entrance to the prison car park, and on Warrington Road, to stop-check cars.

They were searching for any items that may be on its way to inmates like mobile phones, drugs or weapons.

Cars were also being checked for speeding, and the planned operation saw numerous vehicles stopped.

A 27-year-old man from Liverpool had his car - a Ford S-Max - seized for driving with no insurance.

The man was also cautioned for possession of cannabis.

In two other separate incidents, a 24-year-old woman from Runcorn, and 18-year-old woman from Liverpool, were also searched and cautioned for possession of cannabis.
