CONCERNS have been raised over controversial plans to build a fire station at a location named as a 'hotspot for emergency calls' in the town.

The blueprints to start the building work at junction of Widnes Road and Marsh Lane in Cuerdley, have been met with strong opposition from a number of councillors.

This includes Clr David Keane (Penketh and Cuerdley - LAB) and Clr Linda Dirir (Penketh and Cuerdley - LAB), who do not oppose the construction of the station but have reservations about its proposed development on green belt land.

The fire station is one of four sites to be built as part of Emergency Response Programme by the Fire and Rescue Service to improve its 10 minute response standard while still enabling budget cuts to be made over the next four years.

Three other stations are expected to be built in Alsager, Lymm and a site near the M56 at Chester.

The plans will be debated at tonight's development management committee at the Town Hall at 6.30pm.
