A PHARMACY chain, which owns four chemists in Warrington, is being sold.

The sale of the whole Medicx chain is expected to be completed by Christmas, assuming buyers can be found, but the reason for the sudden sale is unknown.

The news will particularly concern residents on and around Barrow Hall Lane who have already lost their nearest GP surgery earlier this year and have been reliant on the neighbouring pharmacy.

Medicx also run the pharmacy at Chapelford Medical Centre on Burtonwood Road, Hood Manor Centre on Dorchester Road and a chemist on Manchester Road.

Specialist pharmacy sales adviser Christie and Co has been appointed to market the MedicX Pharmacy Ltd estate of 21 pharmacies.

Tony Evans, director of pharmacy, said: “It is extremely rare for an estate of such high quality to be available for sale on an individual or sub group basis.

“Expressions of interest are invited from independent, regional and group operators for what is one of the most exciting opportunities to come to market in several years.

“We have already received strong levels of enquiries and will be looking to affect a timely sale of the pharmacies.

“This estate is relatively new, so the pharmacies provide a genuine opportunity for purchasers to expand dispensing activity and services beyond the already strong levels achieved.”

I'm not sure this is a bad thing, because since this company took over the running of the Manchester Road pharmacy, the standard of service has become appalling. I suspect the sudden decision to sell is because the number of people using th shops has dropped.

I always find the manchester road branch of medicx a fantastic pharmacy, in fact I wouldn't go anywhere else! I'm also sure they're not selling up because you've had a bad experience! as important as I'm sure you think you are!!

Our pharmacy at Gt Sankey is great, the staff could not be more helpful.
After the closure of our surgery Medicx pharmacy seemed to be the only group to try and get it reinstated. I hope all their staff come out of this all right.
