HEALTH chiefs in the town are hoping to encourage men to be more health conscious as part of a new initiative.

The ‘Hey Mr!’ campaign has been developed in response to findings that men in Warrington are more likely to get prostrate, lung and bowel cancer than other cancers and less likely to seek help early.

The public health team are promoting the national ‘Be clear on cancer’ messages to help men become more aware and recognise the signs and symptoms a the earlier cancer is diagnosed and treated the better.

The team will be at Howley Carnival and Bewsey and Dallam fun day on Saturday from1 to 4pm, Westy community fun and sports day on July 26 from 12 to 4pm, Warrington Mela on August 10 from 12 to 5.30pm and at Woolston show on September 7 from 12 to 4pm.

Clr Pat Wright, executive board member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “It’s important that men understand when something isn’t quite right and know when to take action.

“Knowing your own body and knowing the signs and symptoms is really what we want to encourage and we are targeting men in particular to pay closer attention to their health and if they are concerned to go and see their GP.”
