Plans to open car park on Stretton Airfield

Warrington Guardian: Plans to open car park on Stretton Airfield Plans to open car park on Stretton Airfield

CONTROVERSIAL plans to turn a former airfield site in Appleton into a two storey garage will be decided at a planning meeting on Thursday.

An application to build a car storage facility with space for 118 cars on the former Stretton Airfield also includes plans to build a private office building and a security lodge.

The construction of an access road from the former airfield runway to the proposed development and a 15 space external car park is also included in the final plans.

Concerns have been raised by residents over the extra pollution from cars, noise and the unsuitability of the roads with claims the proposal is not considered a sustainable form of development.

Appleton Parish Council, Antrobus Parish Council and High Legh Parish Council also object to the proposed plans.

But the council has received two letters of support for the blueprints with one claiming the airfield is used as a ‘dumping ground by fly tippers and having people on the site and landscaping the site would make it a better place’.

The plans have been listed for approval subject to conditions.

I presume that this planning application is for the storage of new and unregistered cars? If so then why not, the land doesn't currently serve any function other than as waste land.

Haha! Have you seen the plans?! Its for someone to store their cars and have them on show and have 12 "events" each year on the runway.

The airfield site is currently partly a commercial site for warehouse, light industrial premises and other commercial units. It is not an airfield. It was one once and served as RNAS Blackcap. Little of it is left now. I used to drive on the runway as a youngster in my Dad,s car.
