AFTER more than two decades apart, the Crickettes Morris Dancing Troupe has reunited at the 50th birthday of one its members to raise money for the Warrington Neo-Natal Unit.
The 11-strong group, who previously held the title of UK champions, dusted off their dancing shoes to perform a show-stopping routine on Saturday at the birthday of Julie Griffiths, of Weymouth Road.
The reunion, which was organised by Michelle Lofthouse, involved many weeks of practising to hone their old routines.
Julie said: “We are a mix of personalities but we all work really well together. It all does come flooding back to you and we have all had a lot of fun being back together.”
The troupe of 11 women decided to raise money for the Warrington Neo-Natal Unit as the group’s founder, Norma Barker, who died 15 years ago, was a sister at the special baby care unit in St Helens.
The neo-natal unit is also close to many of the dancers’ hearts after one of the troupe members, Wendy Daley, spent many weeks there following the premature birth of her son, Alex, now aged six.
Julie added: “The neo-natal unit has done amazing things and we just want to help them to continue the work they do.”
