She has ambitions to become an F1 engineer but in the meantime can’t wait to be the 50th rose queen

A NEW queen is ready to be crowned for a very special year in Thelwall.

The annual Thelwall Rose Queen Festival takes place next month – the 50th running of the event.

Held on June 21, the day will have the theme of Gold and will see Eva Lavender-Callow take over as Rose Queen.

The procession starts at the earlier time of 1.30pm from Thelwall Parish Hall and this year’s Rose Queen will be joined by many of the former queens, who have been invited to celebrate the anniversary.

Eva, a year seven pupil at Kings Leadership Academy in Woolston, said: “I have lived in the Thelwall area for five years.

“My favourite subjects are science, maths and history.

“I really enjoy school and I want to be a F1 engineer and hope to attend Cambridge University.

“My hobbies are swimming, jujitsu, watching F1 and reading – my favourite author is Jacqueline Wilson.

“I also love playing with my family on our Wii U and travelling, we are lucky enough to go away most years and we went to F1 in Belgium last year.

“This year we are going to Disney in Florida and I am already excited to go back! And we will be spending Christmas in New York next year.

“I am very excited to be the Thelwall Rose Queen especially as it is the 50th anniversary this year.

“Mostly, I am looking forward to opening events around the village and wearing my dress. My sister Sofia was an attendant last year so she will be retiring this year and it will be very special to be able to share the day with my sister.” The main arena attraction is the Batala Samba Band and there will be a dog show staged by the RSPCA.
